Rev. Dr. Cathy Cook, Pastor of Evangelism

On February 19, 2023, the Consistory of Trinity UCC  unanimously called the Rev. Dr. Cathy Cook as our Pastor of Evangelism! Evangelism literally means sharing good news. Her task among us is to share love among us and to lead us in sharing that love with our community and the world.

Dr. Cook has already been doing this of course. She has already been preaching love, leading worship, teaching, grant writing, communicating with the congregation and other possible partners with us in the ministry of sharing good news of love with and within the community. In January, she led our consistory in beginning a year-long process of visioning for our future.

The creation of this ministry position officially allows Rev. Dr. Cook to pursue dual ordained ministerial standing in the United Church of Christ. She holds full ordained ministerial standing in the United Methodist Church, where she has served UMC congregations as pastor. She also served as a traveling evangelist with the UMC leading a ministry she developed called “Church Without Walls.” In this ministry she traveled around to different venues leading worship at places such as Summit Coffee in Davidson, auto repair shops, and animal shelters.

A native of Concord, NC, Cathy is a writer, teacher, preacher, and poet. She is the author of three books, including her memoir, “the Beagle and his Boy,” and numerous journalism articles. Cathy is a recipient of the Francis Asbury Preaching Award and the Denman Evangelism Award from the United Methodist Church. As a Communications college teacher and scholar, she received Excellence in Teaching state recognition for her “Public Speaking” classes. She’s presented at regional, national, and international Conferences, including the National Communication Association, the Southeastern Women’s Studies Association, and the International Clergywomen’s Consultation.

In addition to her ministry endeavors, Cathy loves spending time with her family, farming in her backyard, walking on the beach, learning French, and cuddling with her adopted rescue pups.
