Study Opportunity:  Declaration for a Just Peace between Palestine and Israel

When: Wednesdays Jan 26 – Feb 23, 2022, 7:30-8:45 PM Eastern Time

In July, 2021, The 33rd General Assembly of the UCC overwhelmingly voted to adopt an historic resolution:  Declaration for a Just Peace between Palestine and Israel.  According to the church’s press release which followed the vote, the declaration “established a new plumbline for the UCC’s engagement with the issue of Israel/Palestine,” and builds on over 50 years of prior General Assembly actions.  At Trinity, we will engage in a 5-week study which will take an in-depth look at the components of this declaration.  We will examine selected Biblical, historical and theological contexts which informed it, such as Kairos Palestine and Christian Zionism, as well as ways in which these contexts have shaped interpretations of current political events.  Finally, we will discuss the Declaration’s recommendations for actions and ways in which we can become better advocates for a just peace in this troubled region of the world.

Anne Lipe, who has visited the region on three separate occasions, will lead the study along with Pastor Nathan King.  We will meet via Zoom on Wednesdays, January 26th through February 23rd from 7:30 – 8:45 PM. Registration required. It is recommended that the declaration be read prior to beginning the study; a link is available here: https://www.globalministries.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/General-Synod-2021-Resolution-I-P.pdf
